How to Beat Mother Slime in Necesse | Spawn Conditions, Attack Patterns & Drops

Mother Slime is a brand-new boss exclusive to Slime Cave Incursions — not a story boss upgrade, but a completely fresh fight. It cycles through three attacks: jump stomp, spike scatter, and summoning around 10 slime soldiers at once. My first attempt ended at 84% boss HP because I couldn’t deal with the minions fast enough. Second run with an NPC companion? Total cakewalk.

What Is Mother Slime?

Mother Slime is an Incursion-exclusive boss that only appears in Slime Caves. It’s not a powered-up version of any story boss — it’s an entirely new encounter you can’t access outside of Incursions. Appears starting from Tier 2; couldn’t find it in Tier 1.

The boss has a unique set of attacks not found in any story boss: giant jump stomps, circular spike bursts on landing, and mass slime soldier summons. The defining mechanic is that it gets faster as its HP drops — what felt manageable in early phases becomes significantly more intense by the end.

Spawn Conditions & How to Get There

Use the Fallen Altar to Enter Slime Cave

To fight Mother Slime, you need to use a Slime Cave Gateway Tablet at your settlement’s Fallen Altar. Gateway Tablets drop from Incursion bosses or turn up during exploration — you’ll naturally accumulate them as you play.

Two Tablet Types: Gathering vs. Hunting

Slime Cave has two tablet variants: Gathering and Hunting. Both lead to Mother Slime, but the available drops and debuffs differ.

Gathering Tablet

Hunting Tablet

GatheringHunting
Boss Spawn ConditionMine glowing oresDefeat a set number of enemies
Exclusive DropSlimeumSlime Matter
Shared DropsSlime Essence, Gateway TabletSame
DebuffPotion buff duration –50%All enemies are zombified

If you’re on the Gathering path and need to mine the ores, you’ll need an Ancient Fossil Pickaxe (tool damage 245+). Hunting requires no pickaxe, so if you don’t have one yet, just go Hunting.

Tier 2 Modifiers

Tier 2 Incursions apply these modifiers — note that boss HP and damage are already higher than base values:

  • +30% drop rate
  • +25% enemy max HP
  • +15% enemy damage

Bring an NPC

My first run was solo and I lost because I couldn’t clear the summoned slimes fast enough. Second run with an NPC companion — easy win. NPCs handle the slime soldiers, letting you focus entirely on the boss. If you’re struggling solo, just bring an NPC.

Farm Slime Gear First (Optional Upgrade Path)

If Mother Slime is punishing you, farming the Slime Cave for Slime gear materials is a solid option before rematching. The materials split by route:
Slimeum → mine it on the Gathering route
Slime Matter → enemy drops on the Hunting route

Watch Out for Liquid Slime

The arena has scattered green liquid slime patches that deal slip damage on contact. You’ll be dodging constantly, so learn the layout early and don’t backpedal into them.

Higher HP than Fallen Wizard (50,000). The Tier 2 modifier (+25% HP) is already factored in, so base HP is likely a bit lower.

Attack Patterns & How to Dodge Them

Overview

Mother Slime rotates through three attacks in a cycle: jump stomp → spike burst → slime soldier summon. As HP decreases, the boss moves faster — jump intervals that feel comfortable early become tight by the end.

Attack 1: Jump Stomp

Attack Pattern 1

Mother Slime leaps directly toward the player and tries to crush you, repeating several times in a row. Each hit deals 90 collision damage.

How to dodge: Track the landing shadow and run sideways. The Blink Scepter’s dash is extremely effective here — time it right and you’ll dodge cleanly. Don’t stop moving after one dodge; more jumps follow immediately.

Attack 2: Spike Burst

Attack Pattern 2

On landing, the boss releases a circular ring of spikes spreading outward from the impact point, repeated about three times before switching attacks.

How to dodge: Spike positions have warning indicators before they appear, giving you enough time to react. Running sideways the moment you see the indicator is safer than trying to thread between spikes.

Attack 3: Slime Soldier Summon

Attack Pattern 3

Mother Slime flattens itself, then leaps high and summons around 10 slime soldiers on landing. They chase and attack the player — ignore them long enough and you’ll get surrounded.

How to handle it: Use an AoE weapon to clear the soldiers in groups. An NPC companion handles this automatically, freeing you to stay on the boss. This exact attack is what killed me on my first attempt.

Phase Shift: Speed Ramp

As HP drops, Mother Slime’s movement speed increases. Jumps that were easy to read in the early phase become genuinely fast late in the fight. Don’t let your speed buffs lapse.

Strategy Summary

[Early Phase — High HP] Jump attacks are easy to read and dodge Prioritize clearing slime soldiers the moment they're summoned Good time to learn the attack cycle
[Mid to Late Phase — HP dropping] Boss speed increases, jumps get tighter Check speed buff uptime constantly — reapply immediately if it expires Spike burst: react to the warning indicator, don't try to predict placement
[Keys to Victory] ① Bring an NPC (handles slime soldiers so you can focus the boss) ② Blink Scepter to reliably dodge jump stomps ③ Keep speed buffs running through the whole fight

My Clear Experience

Run 1: Solo → Died at 84% HP Remaining

Went in with the same gear I used to clear Fallen Wizard, no companions. Blink Scepter handled the jumps and spikes well enough — but when the slime soldiers hit the field, 10 at once was more than I could clear. Got surrounded by minions and the boss at the same time, healing couldn’t keep up. Wiped with the boss still at 84% HP.

Run 2: NPC Strategy → Easy Win

Same gear, no changes. Just brought an NPC this time. The NPC cleaned up slime soldiers while I stayed on the boss. With minion duty handled, Mother Slime’s actual attack kit is manageable. Cleared it without too much trouble. Bringing an NPC is clearly the intended approach here.

If you’re determined to go solo, farming Slimeum and Slime Matter to build out your Slime gear set first is the way to close that damage gap.

Drop Table

No story boss Elder rewards — this is an Incursion boss. Drops vary based on tablet type (Gathering vs. Hunting).

What to Do After Clearing

1. Craft Slime Gear

Slimeum, Slime Matter, and Slime Essence all go into Slime gear. You’ll need both materials, which means clearing both the Gathering and Hunting routes at some point.

2. Hit Other Incursion Zones

Beyond Slime Cave, Incursions span the Swamp, Forest, Desert, and Snow biomes. Work through whichever zones you have tablets for — there’s no required order.

3. Push to Higher Tiers

Once your gear is up, higher Tier Slime Cave Incursions open up. Boss HP and damage scale significantly, but so do the rewards.

FAQ

Q1: Where do I fight Mother Slime?

A: Slime Cave Incursion only. Use a Slime Cave Gateway Tablet at the Fallen Altar in your settlement. Spawn condition is met by completing Gathering (mining glowing ores) or Hunting (killing enemies) objectives. Confirmed in Tier 2; not available in Tier 1.

Q2: Do I need an Ancient Fossil Pickaxe?

A: Only for the Gathering route — you need it to mine the glowing ores. If you enter on the Hunting route, no pickaxe needed to fight the boss. The pickaxe becomes necessary if you want to farm Slimeum for gear materials.

Q3: The jump attacks become impossible to dodge late in the fight

A: Mother Slime speeds up as its HP drops — that’s the mechanic. Blink Scepter dash is your best tool here. Layer Speed Potions and speed-boosting food to keep up with the pace.

Q4: Can’t clear the slime soldiers fast enough

A: Bring an NPC. That’s the simplest fix. I lost my first run solo for exactly this reason and cleared it easily with a companion. If you want to stay solo, an AoE weapon is essential — and consider farming Slime gear first to increase your damage output.

Summary

  • Mother Slime is an Incursion-exclusive boss. Slime Cave only, starting at Tier 2
  • Enter via the Fallen Altar using a Gathering or Hunting Gateway Tablet — different drops and debuffs per type
  • Gathering route requires an Ancient Fossil Pickaxe. Hunting route does not
  • 65,000 HP (Classic / Tier 2), 40 Armor
  • Three-attack cycle: Jump Stomp → Spike Burst → ~10 Slime Soldiers
  • Speeds up as HP drops. Counter with Blink Scepter + speed buffs
  • Strongly recommend bringing an NPC — they handle slime soldiers so you can focus the boss
  • Drops: Slimeum (Gathering), Slime Matter (Hunting), Slime Essence (both)
  • Green liquid slime patches deal slip damage — watch your footing while dodging
