After getting slaughtered repeatedly by Sunlight Champion, I walked into the Crystal Dragon fight bracing for another round of grinding — and cleared it on the first attempt. HP 145,600 looks terrifying on paper, the highest raw number of any boss in the game, but the attack patterns are surprisingly readable. Manage the Crystal Golems and you’ll find this boss easier than the two that came before it. This guide covers the exact HP, all 4 attack patterns, the gear I used, and every confirmed drop.
What Is Crystal Dragon?
Crystal Dragon is boss #19 out of 20 in Necesse — one step before the final boss. It unlocks after defeating Fallen Wizard, and you fight it inside the Crystal Hollow biome via an Incursion.
Visually, it’s a crystal-encrusted serpentine dragon that flies. It glides and circles through the air, attacking with crystal projectiles, a rotating laser, and Crystal Golem summons. Unlike Moonlight Dancer or Sunlight Champion, it drops no unique weapons or armor — the rewards are BGM Vinyls and Crystal Hollow-exclusive crafting materials.
How to Access Crystal Hollow
Access opens after defeating Fallen Wizard. Use a Gateway Tablet at the Fallen Altar and select Crystal Hollow as your destination.

Crystal Hollow is a purple amethyst cave biome. The only Incursion type I confirmed is Extraction — mine a set amount of ore to trigger the boss portal. I couldn’t confirm Hunt, and Trial doesn’t appear to exist. If other Objective types appear, I’ll update this article.
Note: The author will update if Hunt or Trial Objectives are confirmed.
Preparation
Gear I Used to Clear It
| Slot | Item |
|---|---|
| Armor | Nightsteel armor (Tier 6) |
| Weapon | Chromatic Spellbook (Tier 8) |
| Accessory | Phantom Caller (Tier 5) |
Honestly, you don’t need to over-prepare. If you beat Sunlight Champion, the same gear with 1–2 tier upgrades is enough. The Chromatic Spellbook handles sustained ranged damage, and Phantom Caller lets me stay mobile without depending on Kinetic Boots.
Clear the Combat Area First
Crystal Hollow terrain is messy — crystal formations and ledges will catch you during dodge windows. Clear the area around the boss portal with blocks before starting the fight. Going in without prep means getting clipped by terrain while dodging lasers, which is a reliable way to die.
Stats
| Value | |
|---|---|
| HP (Classic, Tier 7) | 145,600 |
| Armor | Unknown |
The Wiki’s “HP 100,000” figure is the base stat before tier scaling. At Tier 7 on Classic difficulty, actual HP is 145,600. This is the highest raw number in the game, but comparing it directly to Moonlight Dancer (84,800) or Sunlight Champion (70,000) is misleading — make sure your gear tier matches before you fight.
Attack Patterns
Four attacks total. Three are manageable; one will end your run if you mishandle it.
Pattern 1: Orbital Circling + Charge

The boss spirals around you like a snake, then periodically charges in a straight line. During the circling phase, just maintain distance — you won’t take hits. The charge has a visible wind-up animation; once you see it, dash sideways and it’ll pass right through.
Pattern 2: Crystal Bullets

Fires crystal projectiles that explode on impact and scatter small shards in all directions. The shards are the real threat, not the bullet itself. If you’re standing at the landing point, you’ll eat the full burst. When you see a bullet coming, step at least one body-width away from the predicted impact zone — far enough that the shards miss you.
Pattern 3: Laser (Most Dangerous)

A thick hyperbeam-style laser sweeps in a rotating arc. A direct hit is near-lethal. The counterintuitive dodge: stay close to the boss. Because the laser rotates around the boss as the center point, the closer you are, the shorter the arc you need to outrun. The further away you are, the wider the sweep becomes — and you can’t outrun it at range.
Pattern 4: Crystal Golem Summon

During the fight, Crystal Dragon summons Crystal Golems. Each Golem fires a thin sniper-style laser that tracks you. When this overlaps with the boss’s own attacks, your health disappears fast. The rule is absolute: when a Crystal Golem spawns, stop attacking the boss and kill the Golem immediately. Leaving one alive dramatically increases your chance of a sudden death.
My Clear Experience
I’ll admit — I was expecting another grind.
Coming off multiple Sunlight Champion deaths, I saw HP 145,600 and mentally prepared for a brutal session. Then the “stay close during the laser” strategy clicked faster than I expected. Pressed against the center axis while spamming the Chromatic Spellbook, damage flowed in without much repositioning.
The only real scare was a Crystal Golem laser hitting me from behind while I was dodging the boss simultaneously. Half my health gone in a second. Once I committed fully to Golem-first priority, the rest was clean. First clear, maybe five minutes of actual combat.
After the difficulty of Sunlight Champion, this boss felt like a well-designed “reward” fight — readable patterns, satisfying to execute correctly.
Drops
Guaranteed Drop
| Item | Notes | |
|---|---|---|
| Gateway Tablet | Required to enter the next Incursion tier |
Random Drops
| Item | Type | |
|---|---|---|
| Dragon’s Hoard Vinyl | BGM Vinyl | |
| Past Behind Glass Vinyl | BGM Vinyl |
No unique weapons or armor drop from Crystal Dragon — confirmed in-game. Unlike Moonlight Dancer or Sunlight Champion, there’s no equipment-farming reason to grind this boss. The goal is the Gateway Tablet for progression and the Crystal Hollow materials.
Crystal Hollow Exclusive Materials
These materials only appear during Crystal Hollow Incursions:
| Item | Use | |
|---|---|---|
| Pearlescent Diamond | High-tier gear crafting | |
| Various Gems | Accessories and gear crafting |
After the Kill
1. Prepare for the Final Boss
Crystal Dragon is the second-to-last boss. The next fight is Necesse’s final boss. Use the Crystal Hollow materials to push your gear to maximum tier before heading in.
2. Farm Crystal Hollow Materials
Pearlescent Diamond is a critical crafting resource for the final stretch. Farming Crystal Dragon doubles as prep for the final fight.
FAQ
Q: How do I get to Crystal Hollow?
A: Defeat Fallen Wizard to obtain a Gateway Tablet, then place it at the Fallen Altar and select Crystal Hollow.
Q: I can’t dodge the laser
A: The counter-intuitive answer — stay close to the boss. The laser rotates around the boss as its center, so the shorter distance = the shorter arc you have to outrun.
Q: The Crystal Golems are destroying me
A: Stop attacking the boss the moment a Golem appears and kill it first. That sniper laser will delete you if you try to multitask. Golem-first, always.
Q: No equipment drops — why bother farming?
A: Gateway Tablets for progression, Pearlescent Diamonds for final boss prep, and two BGM Vinyls for collection. The farming loop is the final boss preparation loop.
