Potions in Necesse go far beyond healing. Press B once before a boss fight and you can boost your damage, attack speed, armor, and movement speed all at once for 5 minutes. In the late game, upgrade your standard potions with Alchemy Shards to stack +15% damage, +30% attack speed, and +32 armor simultaneously.
This guide covers all 42 potions in Necesse v1.2.0, organized by purpose. It starts with what to bring, then lists every effect and crafting recipe.
Recommended Loadouts
You don’t need to stock all 42 potions. Use these sets as a starting point and add extras based on your weapon type or activity.
| Purpose | Core Potions | Optional Additions |
|---|---|---|
| Early Boss Fights | Health Potion / Battle Potion / Speed Potion / Health Regen Potion | Strength / Ranger / Wisdom / Minion Potion (match your weapon) |
| Mid-to-Late Bosses | Greater Health Potion+ / Battle Potion / Attack Speed Potion / Resistance Potion / Speed Potion | Accuracy Potion / Mana Regen Potion / Fire Resistance Potion |
| Mining | Mining Potion | Spelunker Potion / Treasure Potion / Passive Potion |
| Fishing | Fishing Potion | Speed Potion (for travel) |
| Building | Building Potion | Passive Potion |
| Cave Exploration | Spelunker Potion / Treasure Potion / Tracker Potion | Passive Potion / Speed Potion |
For boss fights, the four core buffs are Battle, Attack Speed, Resistance, and Speed. Add Wisdom and Mana Regen for magic weapons, Accuracy and Rapid for ranged weapons, and Minion for summoner builds. Thorns and Web potions only trigger on giving or receiving hits, so they’re lower priority for general use.
How to Use Potions
Press B to Use All Buff Potions at Once
On PC, the default key B activates “Use buff potions.” It drinks every available buff potion in your inventory at once—no need to place them on the hotbar one by one.
Health Potions and Mana Potions are not affected by B. They have their own dedicated keys. You can rebind all keys in Settings → Controls.
| Action | Default Key (PC) | Targets |
|---|---|---|
| Q | All 3 Health Potion tiers | |
| Z | All 3 Mana Potion tiers | |
| Use Buff Potions | B | Combat, exploration & utility potions |
Using a buff again while it’s active refreshes the duration. Standard and greater versions count as the same buff type, so you can’t stack both at once.
Potion Pouch & Potion Bag
The Potion Pouch holds 10 slots, and the upgraded Potion Bag holds 20. Both store Health Potions, Mana Potions, buff potions, and Revival Potions—and you can use them directly from storage via each shortcut key.
| Item | Slots | How to Obtain |
|---|---|---|
| 10 | Buy from the Exotic Merchant who visits your settlement for 1,000–1,200 Coins. Can also drop from a Merchant’s Backpack at small campsite remnants found on the surface | |
| 20 | Craft at the Fallen Workstation with Potion Pouch ×1, Shadow Essence ×5, Cryo Essence ×5, Bio Essence ×5, Primordial Essence ×5 |
The Exotic Merchant always has the Potion Pouch in their shop rotation, so keep 1,200 Coins ready when they visit.
The other source is small campsite remnants found occasionally on the surface. Look for gravel ground with a Roasting Station, Oil Lantern, Moss Covered Skull, and a Merchant’s Backpack. The backpack drops one of several special items at random, so the Potion Pouch isn’t guaranteed.
When you upgrade to the Potion Bag, everything stored inside the Potion Pouch carries over automatically. No need to empty it first.
Rather than carrying all 42 potions loose, put healing and boss-fight sets in your Potion Pouch, and exploration/utility potions in the Potion Bag. Buff potions stored inside are still activated when you press B.
Alchemy Table Progression
Potions unlock across four tiers as you progress. The starter Alchemy Table already covers healing, damage, movement, and mining, so it’s worth crafting potions from the very beginning.
| Station | What It Crafts | When It Unlocks |
|---|---|---|
| Healing, damage, movement, regen, mining, building, fishing | Very early game | |
| Attack speed, armor, crit, projectile speed, special exploration | After Void Wizard | |
| Weapon-type buffs, minion, treasure, greater healing | After Swamp Guardian | |
| Greater buff potions (with Alchemy Shards), superior healing | After Incursions |

The tables unlock in order from left to right. The basic Alchemy Table carries you through the early game, but once you want armor buffs and weapon-type potions, move on to the higher-tier stations.
Healing, Mana & Revival Potions
Health Potions have a 30-second cooldown after use. The amount healed is a flat value plus a percentage of your base max HP and permanent HP upgrades. Temporary HP from equipment or buffs is not included in the percentage calculation. Mana Potions also have a 30-second cooldown.
| Potion | Effect | Station | Ingredients |
|---|---|---|---|
| Restores 50 + 10% of base max HP | Alchemy Table | Sunflower ×3 / Glass Bottle ×2 (makes 2) | |
| Restores 100 + 20% of base max HP | Caveglow Alchemy Table | Health Potion ×1 / Caveglow ×1 | |
| Restores 150 + 30% of base max HP | Fallen Alchemy Table | Greater Health Potion ×1 / Alchemy Shard ×4 | |
| Restores 50 mana | Alchemy Table | Sunflower ×1 / Blueberry ×4 / Glass Bottle ×2 (makes 2) | |
| Restores 150 mana | Caveglow Alchemy Table | Mana Potion ×1 / Caveglow ×1 | |
| Restores 300 mana | Fallen Alchemy Table | Greater Mana Potion ×1 / Alchemy Shard ×2 | |
| Revives a knocked-down settler | Alchemy Table | Firemone ×5 / Iceblossom ×5 / Sunflower ×5 / Mushroom ×5 / Cactus ×5 / Glass Bottle ×1 |
The Revival Potion is not something you drink—it’s an item used to revive knocked-down settlers. Besides crafting, you can buy it from the Elder for 300–400 Coins. If you play with settlers that can be knocked down, keep a few stored at your settlement.
Combat Potions
All combat potions last 5 minutes. Greater versions have the same duration with stronger effects.
| Potion | Effect | Station | Ingredients |
|---|---|---|---|
| All damage +10% | Alchemy Table | Terrorfish ×1 / Swampfish ×1 / Glass Bottle ×1 | |
| All damage +15% | Fallen Alchemy Table | Battle Potion ×1 / Alchemy Shard ×10 | |
| Attack speed +15% | Void Alchemy Table | Void Shard ×1 / Glass Bottle ×1 | |
| Attack speed +30% | Fallen Alchemy Table | Attack Speed Potion ×1 / Alchemy Shard ×10 | |
| Armor +8 | Void Alchemy Table | Rockfish ×2 / Any Stone ×10 / Glass Bottle ×1 | |
| Armor +32 | Fallen Alchemy Table | Resistance Potion ×1 / Alchemy Shard ×10 | |
| Movement speed +20% | Alchemy Table | Bat Wing ×2 / Glass Bottle ×1 | |
| Movement speed +30% | Fallen Alchemy Table | Speed Potion ×1 / Alchemy Shard ×10 | |
| In-combat HP regen +0.5 | Alchemy Table | Firemone ×5 / Glass Bottle ×1 | |
| In-combat HP regen +1 | Fallen Alchemy Table | Health Regen Potion ×1 / Alchemy Shard ×10 | |
| In-combat mana regen +3 | Alchemy Table | Iceblossom ×5 / Glass Bottle ×1 | |
| In-combat mana regen +5 | Fallen Alchemy Table | Mana Regen Potion ×1 / Alchemy Shard ×10 | |
| Crit chance +10% | Void Alchemy Table | Firemone ×2 / Thorns ×3 / Glass Bottle ×1 | |
| Crit chance +20% | Fallen Alchemy Table | Accuracy Potion ×1 / Alchemy Shard ×10 | |
| Projectile speed +50% | Void Alchemy Table | Swampfish ×1 / Gobfish ×1 / Glass Bottle ×1 | |
| Projectile speed +100% | Fallen Alchemy Table | Rapid Potion ×1 / Alchemy Shard ×10 | |
| Knockback dealt +50% | Alchemy Table | Rockfish ×1 / Iceblossom ×2 / Glass Bottle ×1 | |
| Reflects damage back to attackers | Void Alchemy Table | Thorns ×4 / Mushroom ×2 / Glass Bottle ×1 | |
| Negates fire damage | Void Alchemy Table | Icefish ×1 / Halffish ×1 / Glass Bottle ×1 | |
| Melee damage +10% | Caveglow Alchemy Table | Obsidian ×2 / Caveglow ×2 / Rockfish ×1 / Glass Bottle ×1 | |
| Ranged damage +10% | Caveglow Alchemy Table | Bone ×1 / Caveglow ×2 / Swampfish ×1 / Glass Bottle ×1 | |
| Magic damage +10% | Caveglow Alchemy Table | Ectoplasm ×1 / Caveglow ×2 / Furfish ×1 / Glass Bottle ×1 | |
| Max summons +1 | Caveglow Alchemy Table | Glacial Shard ×1 / Caveglow ×2 / Icefish ×1 / Glass Bottle ×1 | |
| Slows enemies you hit for 5 seconds | Caveglow Alchemy Table | Silk ×1 / Caveglow ×2 / Glass Bottle ×1 |
Despite its name, the Knockback Potion does not reduce knockback you receive—it increases the knockback you deal by 50%. Don’t let the name mislead you.
The Thorns Potion reflects an equal amount of damage back to the attacker when you’re hit. It’s useful in melee-heavy situations but less impactful in boss fights where avoiding damage comes first—prioritize the core four buffs instead.
Exploration, Mining, Building & Fishing Potions
| Potion | Effect | Duration | Station | Ingredients |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fishing power +20% / +1 fishing line | 5 min | Alchemy Table | Worm Bait ×2 / Gobfish ×2 / Glass Bottle ×1 | |
| Fishing power +30% / +2 fishing lines | 5 min | Fallen Alchemy Table | Fishing Potion ×1 / Alchemy Shard ×10 | |
| Mining speed +40% | 15 min | Alchemy Table | Bat Wing ×2 / Iron Bar ×1 / Glass Bottle ×1 | |
| Mining speed +80% | 15 min | Fallen Alchemy Table | Mining Potion ×1 / Alchemy Shard ×10 | |
| Tile/object placement speed +50% | 30 min | Alchemy Table | Clay ×4 / Mushroom ×1 / Glass Bottle ×1 | |
| Tile/object placement speed +100% | 30 min | Fallen Alchemy Table | Building Potion ×1 / Alchemy Shard ×10 | |
| Become invisible | 10 min | Void Alchemy Table | Terrorfish ×2 / Icefish ×1 / Glass Bottle ×1 | |
| Highlights nearby ores | 10 min | Void Alchemy Table | Void Shard ×2 / Gold Bar ×1 / Glass Bottle ×1 | |
| Highlights nearby treasures | 10 min | Caveglow Alchemy Table | Ectoplasm ×2 / Iceblossom ×2 / Glass Bottle ×1 | |
| Highlights nearby enemies | 10 min | Caveglow Alchemy Table | Ancient Roots ×2 / Terrorfish ×1 / Glass Bottle ×1 | |
| Greatly reduces enemy spawn rate | 15 min | Void Alchemy Table | Sunflower ×3 / Furfish ×1 / Glass Bottle ×1 |
For mining runs, use the Mining Potion, Spelunker Potion, and Treasure Potion together. Faster mining, ore highlighting, and chest detection are three separate effects—no single potion covers all of them.

Drink the Spelunker, Treasure, and Tracker Potions before heading underground. Seeing ores, treasures, and enemies at once cuts down the time you spend wandering in the deep caves significantly.
Where to Spend Alchemy Shards
The Fallen Alchemy Table upgrades standard potions using 10 Alchemy Shards each. Upgrading everything costs a massive amount, so prioritize by impact.
Here’s the recommended order:
- Greater Resistance Potion: Jumps from +8 to +32 armor—the biggest single improvement
- Greater Attack Speed Potion: Doubles from +15% to +30%, effective on nearly every weapon
- Greater Accuracy Potion: Crit chance goes from +10% to +20%
- Greater Speed Potion: Helpful against bosses with hard-to-dodge attacks
- Greater Battle Potion: Universal but the increase from +10% to +15% is modest
If you mine or build extensively, bump Greater Mining Potion and Greater Building Potion up the list. Greater Fishing Potion is worth crafting only during dedicated fishing sessions.
Potion Ingredient Sources
Here’s where to find every material, organized by how you actually go get them. When multiple sources exist, the most reliable method is listed.
Gathered on the Surface & Underground
| Material | Primary Source | Used In |
|---|---|---|
| Harvest on plains. Bring seeds back to farm | Health Potion / Mana Potion / Revival Potion / Passive Potion | |
| Harvest in forests. Bring seeds back to farm | Health Regen Potion / Accuracy Potion / Revival Potion | |
| Harvest in snow biome. Bring seeds back to farm | Mana Regen Potion / Knockback Potion / Treasure Potion / Revival Potion | |
| Harvest from Blueberry Bushes in forests. Break the bush for a Blueberry Bush Sapling to farm at your settlement | Mana Potion | |
| Harvest in swamps (surface and underground). Plant harvested Mushrooms on farmland to grow more | Thorns Potion / Building Potion / Revival Potion | |
| Harvest in deserts. Replant harvested Cactus on sand tiles to grow more | Revival Potion | |
| Harvest deep underground in forest/plains caves. Can be farmed at your settlement | Weapon-type potions ×4 / Web Potion / Greater Health & Mana Potions | |
| Harvest underground in swamp caves. Rarely drops an Ancient Roots Sprout—plant it on farmland to farm | Tracker Potion | |
| Harvest from mud patches in swamps. Replant on mud tiles—they spread to nearby mud on their own | Accuracy Potion / Thorns Potion | |
| Cut grass on the surface | Fishing Potion |
Don’t turn all your harvests into potions—save some for farming. Once you can grow Sunflowers, Firemones, Iceblossoms, Blueberry Bush Saplings, Mushrooms, Cactus, Caveglow, Ancient Roots Sprouts, and Thorns at your settlement, you won’t need to trek back to biomes to restock.
Planting note: Cactus and Thorns need special tiles. Cactus must be placed on sand, and Thorns on mud. Neither can go on regular grass or farmland. Set up dedicated growing areas for each at your settlement.
Fishing Materials
| Material | Where to Catch It | Used In |
|---|---|---|
| Surface water (any biome) | Rapid Potion / Fishing Potion | |
| Surface water (any biome) | Fire Resistance Potion | |
| Surface water in forest biome | Wisdom Potion / Passive Potion | |
| Surface water in snow biome | Minion Potion / Fire Resistance Potion / Invisibility Potion | |
| Surface water in swamp biome | Ranger Potion / Battle Potion / Rapid Potion | |
| Underground water | Strength Potion / Resistance Potion / Knockback Potion | |
| Underground water. Rarer than Rockfish | Battle Potion / Invisibility Potion / Tracker Potion |
If you have an Angler at your settlement, you can send them on fishing trips to stock up. Paying Coins for bulk Gobfish, Halffish, Furfish, Icefish, Swampfish, Rockfish, and Terrorfish is often faster than fishing every biome yourself.
Despite its name, the Swampfish is caught on the swamp surface, not underground. The underground catches are Rockfish and Terrorfish. For full details on fishing spots and expedition stocking, see the Fishing Guide.
Enemy Drops & Expeditions
| Material | Where to Farm Manually | Expedition Restocking | Used In |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vampires in forest/snow underground | Explorer underground & snow underground expeditions | Speed Potion / Mining Potion | |
| Skeleton enemies deep underground | Explorer deep underground expeditions | Ranger Potion | |
| Souls deep underground (forest deep caves are reliable) | Explorer deep underground expeditions | Wisdom Potion / Treasure Potion | |
| Cryo Flakes in snow deep underground | Explorer snow deep underground expeditions | Minion Potion | |
| Swamp cave spiders in swamp underground | Hard to restock via expeditions—farm swamp underground directly | Web Potion | |
| Void Apprentices in dungeons | Explorer dungeon expeditions | Attack Speed Potion / Spelunker Potion |
Once your settlement is established, most enemy drops can be restocked passively. Explorer expeditions and mission boards supply Bat Wings, Bones, Ectoplasm, Glacial Shards, and Void Shards on the side. The exception is Silk—it’s faster to head into swamp caves and farm spiders directly than to rely on expeditions.
Mining & Processing
| Material | Source | Used In |
|---|---|---|
| Mine regular rocks underground | Resistance Potion / Sand crafting | |
| Mine deep underground (e.g., forest deep caves) | Strength Potion | |
| Mine clay deposits underground | Building Potion | |
| Mine Iron Ore underground → smelt 4 ore into 1 bar at the Forge | Mining Potion | |
| Mine Gold Ore underground → smelt 4 ore into 1 bar at the Forge | Spelunker Potion | |
| Dig up sand in deserts. Also craftable at the Alchemy Table: Any Stone ×5 → Sand ×1 | Processed into Glass → Glass Bottles | |
| Smelt Sand ×1 into Glass ×1 at the Forge, then craft Glass ×1 into Glass Bottle ×2 at the Alchemy Table | Nearly all standard potions |
Glass Bottles are consumed in bulk. Besides digging sand, you can convert leftover Any Stone into Sand at the Alchemy Table. Smelt a batch of Sand into Glass in advance and store it near your alchemy station so you don’t have to process materials every time you brew.
Incursion Materials
| Material | Source | Used For |
|---|---|---|
| Drops from Incursion enemies and rewards | Upgrading standard potions to greater versions | |
| Obtained from Incursions | Potion Bag crafting material | |
| Obtained from Incursions | Potion Bag crafting material | |
| Obtained from Incursions | Potion Bag crafting material | |
| Obtained from Incursions | Potion Bag crafting material |
You don’t need to stockpile everything from the start. Keep Health Potions and boss-fight core sets for daily use, then craft utility potions (mining, fishing, building) right before you need them. This approach keeps your storage and material management clean.
Summary
Potions hit hardest when you stop using them one at a time and start loading purpose-built sets into your Potion Pouch, then hitting B to drink them all at once.
- Boss fights: start with Battle, Attack Speed, Resistance, and Speed
- Add Strength / Ranger / Wisdom / Minion to match your weapon type
- Mining: combine Mining, Spelunker, and Treasure potions
- Upgrade Resistance and Attack Speed potions first with Alchemy Shards
- Use Q and Z for healing and mana—B is for buffs only
To review your gear alongside potions, check the Equipment Roadmap and the Enchanting Guide. They’ll help you identify where your damage or defense falls short so you know exactly which potions to prioritize.
