Void Shards come from the Void Wizard, Void Apprentices in dungeons, and Dungeon Expeditions. Farm the Void Wizard when you need a batch quickly, pick up shards from Void Apprentices while clearing a dungeon, or let Dungeon Expeditions refill your stock between runs.

After the first kill, you can fight the Void Wizard again at the bottom of the dungeon. If Void Shards are the only material you need, boss runs make the required total much easier to plan than hunting individual Void Apprentices.

Pick Your Farming Route by the Number You Need
Need 8 first: upgrade to a Void Alchemy Table
Upgrading an Alchemy Table to a Void Alchemy Table costs 8 Void Shards and 5 Glass Bottles. It unlocks the crafting station for potions such as Attack Speed Potion and Spelunker Potion, making it the first target if you use potions regularly.
Need 13: craft one Void armor set
A Void armor set uses either the Void Mask or the Void Hat, plus the Void Robe and Void Boots. That is 13 Void Shards total. You only need one of the two head pieces, not both.

Need 16: craft a Void Spear or Void Greatbow
The Void Spear and Void Greatbow each cost 16 Void Shards and 8 Demonic Bars. Pick the Spear for a melee build or the Greatbow for a ranged build, then farm for that one weapon first instead of trying to make both at once.

Void Shards have many uses, so trying to craft everything at once drains them quickly. Decide on one goal first: the alchemy upgrade for potions, a weapon for your current build, or armor for magic and summoner builds.
What to Do with One or Two Spare Shards
Once you have a Void Alchemy Table, even a small spare stack has a use.
