Cryo Queen is the second Tier 3 boss and the 9th boss the Elder sends you after. You summon her with an Ice Crown deep in the Snow Biome. My first run with the same Tungsten gear I used against the Reaper chipped her down to 4% HP — close, but not close enough. Run 2, I pushed to 0.8% before the fight slipped away. Run 3, I stacked every buff I had and swapped to Greater Health Potions, and it was over before the sweat dried. Same gear. Buffs and potion tier are the entire fight. Beat her and the Elder hands over a Banner Stand.
What Is the Cryo Queen?
Tier 3’s second boss and the 9th entry on the Elder’s hit list. She appears right after the Reaper in the quest chain.
The battle takes place deep inside Snow Biome caves. The moment you drop into the deep layer, icicles start falling from the ceiling — I died to one before even finding the boss. Watch the ceiling, not just your footing.
First kill reward from the Elder: Banner Stand — a placeable that extends banner effects to sub-settlements.
Ice Crown: How to Get It and How to Summon
Getting the Ice Crown
No crafting required. Cryo Flakes — the enemies that roam the deep Snow Biome caves — drop it. Explore long enough and one will show up naturally.
Summoning Conditions
- Use the Ice Crown while standing in the deep Snow Biome caves
- No time limit once summoned

Pre-Fight Preparation
Equipment Checklist (What I Used to Clear)
| Slot | My Setup | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Armor | Full Tungsten set | 72 total defense. Same as the Reaper fight — no upgrades needed |
| Weapon | Shadow Bolt + Cryo Staff (from run 2 onward) | Swapped Spider Staff out for Cryo Staff after first kill drop |
| Potions | Greater Health Potions + full buff stack | This is the actual win condition |
| Food | High-tier cooking | Eat before the pull |
I went into run 1 in the exact same loadout I cleared the Reaper with and got her to 4% HP. The gear is fine. What isn’t fine: half-hearted buffs and standard Health Potions. Run 2 ended at 0.8% HP. The difference between run 2 and run 3 was buffs and potion tier — nothing else.
Building an Arena
Worth doing. The deep Snow Biome caves are naturally cramped with awkward geometry. Clear some open space before using the Ice Crown. You need room to kite the attack patterns.
Stats
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| HP (Classic) | 18,000 |
That’s roughly 1.6× the Reaper’s 11,000 HP. The fight is long by design. Gear gets you most of the way there — what carries you through the final stretch is sustained recovery and buff uptime.
Attack Patterns and How to Dodge Them
General Pattern Notes
Every attack is ice-type. She cycles through four patterns, and they get more aggressive as her HP drops.
Pattern 1 — Radial Ice Spikes

Ice spikes shoot outward from the boss in all directions. Prediction lines appear before they fire — just don’t stand on the lines. Looks threatening, is actually the easiest pattern to read.
Pattern 2 — Ice Pellets

Small ice pellets fired in your direction. Individual hits are light, but they’re easy to miss. Keep moving and most of them miss.
Pattern 3 — Ice Chunks

Larger projectiles than the pellets, and they hurt more. Dodge through them rather than running away in a straight line.
Pattern 4 — Pellet Barrage

Pattern 2, but a lot of pellets at once. Get some lateral distance and side-strafe through the volley.
Key Tactics
[Early Fight] High HP phase Get a read on her patterns. The prediction-line spikes are your warm-up. Dump damage while she's telegraphing.
[Mid to Late Fight] As HP drops Attack frequency climbs. Weave attacks into the gaps between her patterns. Don't save Greater Health Potions — use them before you need them.
[The Actual Win Conditions] ① Max out every buff before the pull (this alone swings the fight) ② Greater Health Potions only — standard Potions can't keep up ③ Arena space — you can't dodge patterns in a tight corridorMy Runs
Pre-Fight: Died to a Ceiling Icicle
Dropped into the deep Snow Biome and caught a falling icicle before I found the boss. The deep layer damages you before the fight even starts — keep your head up.
Run 1: Reaper Gear, First Attempt — Lost at 4% HP
Full Tungsten set, Shadow Bolt. Got her to 4% and ran out of steam. Buffs were sloppy, potions were standard tier. “The gear is enough” was confirmed. “The buffs are not” was also confirmed.
Run 2: Upgraded to Cryo Staff — Lost at 0.8% HP
Swapped Spider Staff for the Cryo Staff I picked up from run 1. Slightly more familiar damage output. Still lost — this time at 0.8% HP remaining. Zero point eight percent. The gap was not gear.
Run 3: Full Buffs, Greater Health Potions — Clear
Same armor, same weapons. Stacked every available buff before the pull and replaced all Health Potions with Greater Health Potions. Comfortable clear. The recovery actually kept pace with the damage incoming, and the buff bonus pushed damage over the line. The loadout was fine from run 1. The execution was the problem.
Drop Items
Elder Reward (First Clear)

| Item | Effect | |
|---|---|---|
| Banner Stand | Placeable item. Applies banner effects to sub-settlements in its range |
First Kill Only Drop
| Item | Effect | |
|---|---|---|
| Cryo Heart | Consumable. Permanently increases max HP by 50. “A cold heart from a cold hearted ruler” |
Permanent +50 max HP. Use it immediately — that buffer matters in every fight from here forward.
Chance Drops (One of Four Weapons)
One weapon drops per clear, random from the four below.
| Item | Type | Stats | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cryo Staff | Summon | Minion damage 24, crit 10%. Can target enemies directly | |
| Cryo Spear | Melee | Melee damage 29, attack speed 3.7, +3 durability, crit 10%, knockback 75. Releases ice shards on hit | |
| Cryo Blaster | Ranged | Ranged damage 49, attack speed 4, +1 durability, crit 5%. Requires charge-up before firing | |
| Cryo Glaive | Melee | Melee damage 60, attack speed 3, +3 durability, crit 10%, knockback 150. +20% crit damage |
Cryo Glaive is the standout — melee damage 60 with +20% crit damage. Melee builds can pair it with the Reaper Scythe (damage 70) depending on the situation. The Cryo Blaster hits hard at 49 ranged damage but the charge-up mechanic takes getting used to.
After the Fight
1. Use the Cryo Heart
Permanent +50 max HP. Don’t sit on it.
2. Report to the Elder
Talk to the Elder back at your settlement. Collect the Banner Stand and set it up around your sub-settlements.
3. Try the Drop Weapon
If a weapon dropped, run it. Cryo Glaive at melee damage 60 is strong for melee builds, and the Cryo Staff is a direct upgrade path for summoners.
4. Start Scouting for The Cursed Crone
The next Elder target is The Cursed Crone, found in the deep Deciduous Forest caves. Unlike most bosses, she spawns in the world without a summoning item — you can stumble into her while exploring. Go in ready.
FAQ
Q1: Can’t find or summon the Cryo Queen
A: You need an Ice Crown, and you need to use it inside the deep Snow Biome caves. Ice Crown drops from Cryo Flakes — the enemies that roam that area. Explore the deep layer and one will show up.
Q2: Can I use Reaper-tier gear?
A: Yes. Full Tungsten set plus Shadow Bolt — the same loadout from the Reaper fight — got her to 4% HP on my first run. Maxing out buffs and using Greater Health Potions matters more than gear upgrades. If you’re getting her below 10%, the gear is not the problem.
Q3: How many buffs do I actually need?
A: All of them. I lost run 1 and run 2 on half-stacked buffs. Run 3, same gear, full buff stack — clean clear. The 0.8% loss on run 2 versus the win on run 3 came down to buff count and potion tier only. Don’t ration them.
